Nicer in a Minute – E.P. review – Junkyard Groove’s first. It’s finest.

Junkyard Groove

When I got the album Nicer in a Minute and started listening to it, ladies, gentlemen and not-so-gentle men, it just got nicer – by the minute, by the track, by every verse delivered by Ameeth and by every guitar strum and drum beat.

That is my first reaction to the 5 tracks in this album.

In other words, this is one of those albums you listen to ‘by chance’ and start liking it almost immediately. For everyone in need of fresh sounds to listen to and for everyone who feels their playlist has become stale, it’s time you lent your ears to Nicer in a Minute.

I listened to the tracks in the order they were posted on the band website and shall review them in the same order.

—————————

Nicer in a Minute starts with ‘Let you go’.

The peppiest track in the album with a constant guitar backing. A kind of melodic riff that seems to grow on you as the song progresses. It holds the song together and does a good job of it.

The high point of the song though is the chorus where the song completely shifts to different feel with such ease and panache. The drums become shallow and the guitars take a backseat as Ameeth sings, “Would you care, if I let you go…” Sid does a very subtle and a beautiful guitar piece towards the end of the first chorus that fits in so well that if you don’t listen for it, you’ll miss it.

At around 2.50, heavy guitar chords are introduced and a series of chords wonderfully weaved together are played with vocals in the background. A treat, if I can call it that. It leads the song to a very fitting end. Wow!

————————–

‘Please don’t wake me up’ is the second track and it delivers too. Powerful, yet so soulful. Has all the ingredients of a feel-good love song. The song starts very melodiously with Ameeth unleashing his vocal skills and progresses towards the heavy guitars territory where Sid shows who’s the boss. This track is enqueued in my playlist already.

—————————

‘Thank you’ – The name suggests a very subtle track. An acoustic piece, may be? The track too, starts off with a drum beat in low volume. That’s when Ameeth growls, “1,2,3,4…” and it’s complete mayhem after that!

The name deceived me completely for I didn’t know I was in for a rock and roll fest of raw power! If a pimped up Mustang were to be let loose on a highway, it would sing ‘Thank you’!

And man, did I enjoy it! Fast and groovy from the moment it takes off to the point when Sid finishes it off rightly with a monstrous slide! Craig’s basslines are outstanding throughout the album and I would say, this song brought out the best in him.

JYG, we ‘Thank You’ for giving us this track!

—————————

‘Save me’

This song ends making you want for more. The dead silence that follows the end is really deafening.

A charged up song that is woven with such grim words is hard to find. The song shows the maturity of the band and their ability to touch up on issues most bands do not in their first album.

I am moved by this track that starts with the words, ‘Living in a world of pain and sorrow.’

Ameeth sounds like he was born to sing this song. A must have for everyone who’s lost out on love.

—————————

‘Say goodbye’ was officially that first song I listened to before getting the play order from the band’s website. And THIS is the song that made me look out for the correct order of the tracks. It is just too good and it is fittingly placed at the bottom.

Starts off with acoustic guitar riffs. A country-ish guitar and pleasantly surprising country-ish sounding vocals ease their way in.

A pain filled track that is worthy of going on to becoming a rock ballad with all due respects. Purists would scoff at me. But I couldn’t care less. ‘Say goodbye’ is a track that I would hold close to my heart.

The slowest track in the album. And a perfect farewell bid. I pray, let this not be the last goodbye.

  1. That was a mighty good review. Makes us wonder why you don’t review music oftener…

  2. :) Thank you! Will write more as and when I listen to more! :)

  3. awesome review woman. keep blogging! =)

    • Dear Gayatri,

      Thank you for your comment.

But just one concern. If I were a ‘woman’, like you mentioned, then my blog wouldn’t be named Farting Pen.

And if I were a woman and my blog was indeed named Farting Pen, then I would definitely ask myself out. So I definitely have to be a man. And a disgusting one at that.

An interesting blog you have there too. And I noticed that you missed out on a post for more than a month after, like, nearly a year and a half.

Anyways, keep visiting and keep leaving behind comments! :)
